Dancing Cranes Salon and Apothecary will be featuring Mary Whalen’s “The Wrestlers,” a series of photographs taken earlier this year during wrestling season. All images shot with film and are silver gelatin prints.

Mary Whalen is a photographer and arts educator living in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She has been a professional photographer for 20 years, and works as a photography teacher and the darkroom coordinator at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. She is also a Lincoln Center Institute teaching artist in the Kalamazoo area since 2002. She regularly exhibits work in the Southwest Michigan area, and at Soho20 gallery in New York City.

Four times a year, Dancing Cranes partipates in Downtown Kalamazoo’s Art Hop. Come join us for refreshments and view the work of some of Kalamazoo’s most talented artists. You will find us on the Art Hop from 6–9 p.m. on the first Friday of March, June, October, and December.

Join our team! Sign up by stopping by the salon or visiting the website and help us raise money for this special, worthwhile event. The more the merrier!

Alternative Art Hop: Health – Friday, May 2nd, 6–9 p.m.

This year it will be a health Hop focusing on local businesses and area artists who promote health and wellness. Dancing Cranes will provide information on carcinogens in beauty care products. Learn what to look for and what to avoid when purchasing natural hair, skin, and body care.

Girls’ Night Out 2nd Annual Spring Fling! – Friday, April 18th, 6–9 p.m.

Those who came last year know this is an event not to miss. Spring is finally here and we at Dancing Cranes want to celebrate! Join us as we explore the newest trends for this year and toast to the warmer days ahead. We will feature jewelry from Amy Zane, and specials from Earthly Delights, Tempted, and Dancing Cranes. And as an extra special addition, card readings by Mary Miller. Mary is a gifted medium who may give you a glimpse of your future &mdash 15, 30, and 60 minutes readings will be available for $20, $40, and $80, respectively. Art Hop – Friday, December 7th, 6–9 p.m.

We invite you to celebrate with us as part of the December Art Hop. We’ll be featuring photographs by Zolten Cohen for Bread for the Journey. Bread for the Journey is a local grass-roots charity that gives grants to home-spun ideas. During our Art Hop, you will be able to meet recipients who will share their experiences, as well as the successes of their projects.

Join Dancing Cranes Salon & Apothecary as we host Art in Fermented Form. Fred Bueltman and co-workers from New Holland Brewery will showcase an evolution in the art of label design. A special tasting of New Holland Brews will accompany each label.
